How to Improve Your Jawline (Without Surgery)

A sharp jawline is one of the most-requested “glow-up” goals — and one of the most misunderstood. The good news: for most people, the biggest levers are things you fully control. No surgery required.

1. Lower your body fat

Nothing hides a jawline like a layer of fat over it. The face is often where lower body fat shows up first, so a modest, sustainable calorie deficit paired with strength training does more for jaw definition than any single trick. This is the number-one factor for the vast majority of people.

2. Fix your posture (and “mew”)

Forward head posture — chin jutting toward a screen — flattens the jaw and hides it. Pulling your head back over your shoulders and resting your tongue gently on the roof of your mouth (tongue posture) instantly presents a cleaner jaw and neck line. It’s not magic, but good posture is a real, free upgrade.

3. Reduce water retention

  • Cut excess salt and ultra-processed food, which bloat the face.
  • Drink enough water — dehydration makes you retain more.
  • Prioritise sleep; poor sleep puffs up the face fast.
  • Go easy on alcohol, a major cause of next-day facial bloat.

4. Build the muscle

The masseter (chewing muscle) responds to use. Chewing tougher foods or a firm mastic gum can add a little definition over time. Treat it as a finishing touch — it won’t out-work body fat or posture.

The honest bottom line

Get lean, stand tall, sleep well, and the jawline that’s already there will show. Where it gets personal is knowing which of these matters most for your face — that’s exactly what a Glowary scan measures.
