Does Mewing Actually Work? An Honest Look

“Mewing” — resting your tongue on the roof of your mouth — is one of the internet’s most hyped looksmaxxing habits. The truth sits between the miracle claims and the total dismissals.

What mewing is

Proper oral posture means the whole tongue rests against the palate, teeth lightly together, lips sealed, breathing through your nose. It’s essentially the resting position your mouth is designed for.

What it can realistically do

  • Encourage nasal breathing, which supports better sleep and facial development.
  • Improve resting posture of the jaw and neck, which presents a cleaner jawline immediately.
  • In children and teens, whose bones are still developing, oral posture genuinely matters.

What it can’t do

In adults, mewing will not restructure your facial bones or dramatically change your jaw. Claims of major bone remodeling from tongue pressure aren’t supported by solid evidence. Think “better posture and habits,” not “new face.”

The verdict

Good oral posture is a healthy, free habit worth building — just keep expectations grounded. Pair it with the fundamentals (body fat, sleep, skin) for real results. A Glowary scan helps you see which of those fundamentals will actually move your score.
